Sketchnoting for time management. Draw your working day

sketchnoting visual content

When it comes to efficient planning and use of your working time, anything goes . Sometimes you have to try even tools that were originally developed for other purposes. For example, time management sketching is a relatively unusual phenomenon. And it has its advantageous.

EFFECTIVENESS OF INFORMATION VISUALIZATION

Everyone's different, but in some ways we're very similar. For example, we can be divided into four groups by the way we perceive information

  • audiovisuals,
  • visuals,
  • digitals
  • kinestettes.

Each group has its own type of information perception - through sound, picture, logical chains or feelings (tactile, olfactory, etc.).

It is useful to know how you percept information in order to make your study or work more effective. Some people get information better in the form of images and others in the form of sounds. While someone should touch, smell, taste, and try to get a complete picture of a particular object.

Let's give a simple example - a student learns to be a pastry chef. If he or she learns best through hearing, it will be enough to outline the lectures given by the teacher. Those who better perceive the picture, will need visualization: charts, diagrams, images. And other should visit a bake factory, where you can touch, smell, taste or make a bun with your own hands.

However, the tendency of receiving information in one way does not mean that other formats of its presentation will be absolutely ineffective. For example, the images that complement the lecture will benefit everyone, even those who would be satisfied with dry text. In general, visually minded people represent more than half of the world's population - about 65%.

The human brain is arranged in such a way that it quickly gets tired of monotony. The eye must have something to cling to. Studies confirm that a person learns more than 90% thanks to their eyesight. Drawings and simple graphic models are processed by the brain thousands of times faster than text. And that is their main value.

WHAT IS SKETCHCOURTING

Writing down some information, you can take notes word for word, or just record important details with graphical symbols, as if illustrating key points. Moreover, it is enough for somebody to have just pictures - they help the visuals to remember the information.

All this was established experimentally when the technology of sketching, or sketch, was picked up by students and listeners of various courses/seminars/webinars instead of writing. To remember more and faster, they began to draw pictures using the visualization of information.

Today, the method of visual notes is widely used not only by those who write down information, but also by those who make a report or give a lecture. In order to give the audience a better understanding of the material, the teacher uses visual notes, drawing them on the blackboard in the form of symbols, numbers and arrows. He or she can also use ready-made pictures.

Do you know what method of content presenting can also be attributed to the sketchnoting technology? Comics. Although not everyone loves them, we should admit that the combination of images and text elements is perceived better than ordinary text, even if you just run through the page with your eyes.

VISUAL NOTES

Planning your working day on paper, even when you have at least one gadget at hand, does not lose its relevance. Even if this method is not suitable for everyone,it is still very popular.

THE ADVANTAGES OF SKETCHNOUTING:

  • Drawing makes more fun than writing,
  • Visualization are easily remembered,
  • Onl taking a look at the picture, you can get a full work overview.

If this is still new for you, you should try it.

HOW TO START USING SKETCHNOTING IN YOUR WORK

Sketching is easy. You don't have to be a born artist to create visual images. The main thing is to understand what you are drawing - it is quite enough to structure the information. Usually they are not even drawings, but frames with text or simple figures:

  • a circle,
  • a square,
  • a triangle,
  • a line,
  • a period,
  • a dash.

Although it is not forbidden to draw people's figures and other small pictures for illustration. The rules are created here by you. To make it more clear, you can use colored pens, pencils and markers to highlight titles or important things.

Another option is to draw small icons near each planned event. Icons can be made universal, for example, a circle with an exclamation point inside for particularly important cases or you can come up with new ones each time for a new task.

Visualization of the working day will suit to a creative person that finds it boring to make monotonous marks in computer tables.

However, sketchnoting is more often used to create info-content to engage an online or offline audience, to outline information or to record ideas and planning. Notes can be an additional reminder to do a particular thing. Planning an entire working day on paper or in a graphic editor with sketches is a time-consuming task.

It is much easier to use Checkiant time-tracker.
