HOW TO MEMORIZE FASTER: SIMPLE MEMORIZATION TECHNIQUES

memorization techniques

It is never too late to learn, but with age and depending on the type of activity it becomes more difficult to remember new information. Surely each of us at least once thought: how to remember new information faster? Well, there are actually a lot of different ways. Which ones are more suitable for you? Let's find out.

Content:

1. Traditional way. Repetition is the mother of learning

2. Use the leading memorization mechanism

3. Audio information

4. Visual presentation

5. Movements to memorize

6. Let your imagination run wild

7. So how to learn to remember quickly?

1. Traditional way. Repetition is the mother of learning

The phrase, mashed up holes, but can be very useful. Whatever someone says, but the surest way to remember something new is to repeat the information. And the more the better. My biology teacher once said that a student needs to read a material 16 times to learn it. He recommended to use such a scheme: first you need to repeat all the information on the same day when it was learned. Then repeat it the next day. Then after two-three days, then through week. Even making such a simple procedure, you will see the result.

When you need to learn not text but the words - it is recommended to have a notebook in which you will be able every day to write new words for several times. In this case two types of memory work at once: visual and motor. For those who want to learn a foreign language, and for example, to remember Chinese hieroglyphs, this method will be perfect.

 2. Use the leading memorization mechanism

There are the following types of memory by sensory modality:

  •         visual (visual) memory;
  •         motor (kinesthetic) memory;
  •         sound (auditory) memory;
  •         taste memory;
  •         olfactory memory;
  •         painful memory;
  •         eidetic memory (perception of an object in its absence);

Each person has one leading mechanism of memorization and, respectively, need to learn in different ways.

3. Audio information

If you are an auditory person, always say aloud everything you learn and read. Listen to audio recorecords of books, podcasts. Usually a list of well-read words is offered to good textbooks. If you can not find the record - read the material yourself, make a recorder and listen it.

This also includes repetition aloud. Learn foreign words? Necessarily to pronounce the word - meaning pairs. Preferably several times, at least 5. Also use new words in conversation, build sentences with them.

4. Visual presentation

If a person is a visual, she can use such techniques: visualization, cards, highlighting with colored markers , “photographing with eyes”, etc..

When reading new text, try the information visualization technique. Imagine everything you read about. This will make it easier for you to understand the new material.

A large amount of information is difficult to remember if it is a straight text. First, highlight the main information in a different color, underline sentences, or make bold if you're working on a computer. Second, try to rework the text into a system: make lists, sub-items, draw graphs, create charts. Structured display of information will help to remember terms better.

If you are wondering how easy to memorize foreign words, try to write them on different cards, and on the other hand - a translation or explanation to each word. Break the words into groups and for each group take a paper of a certain color. It is repeating, making associations, and an interesting approach that will help you to remember quickly the words.

To remember the material thoroughly, ask your friends to check you out. An interesting way is to arrange a home dictation. Remember how at school you crammed words in English, because the next day should bethe test? Try to repeat this experience. Now it'll be easier - you won’t get a grade, and the result will not keep itself waiting.

 5. Movements to memorize

For kinesthetics, you need to use taste, touch and movement to remember. Take a book and go to the park, where the breeze and the smell of grass will help to remember the information. Move and at the same time repeat what you need to remember. Draw in the air the words and numbers you need to learn.

 6. Let your imagination run wild

While studying new information, invent associations to it. This method has two advantages: the learning process is more interesting and really easier to remember. When you come across an unfamiliar foreign word, try to associate it with something familiar to you.

The association can be obvious or illogical, but original, based on positive or negative emotions, associated with you or another person, even with the senses! Use everything that will give an effective result. You can even build a whole chain of new words that will remind you of one another.

Are you a creative person? Drawing will help you - for each word or text, create pictures that will be associated with this information. By the way, this technique is the basis of sketchnoting.

So how to learn to remember quickly?

According to the presented ways of memorizing, the advice is one: try different techniques depending on your leading channel of perception of information, add something to them, improve them, combine, and then you will definitely be able to find the key of solving the question “How to remember information faster?”
