Music accompanies us everywhere. We listen to music when we are sad or fun, when we dance or relax. But it cannot only be entertaining, but also increase our productivity. The main thing is to use it correctly.

MOZART EFFECT

 Scientists are exploring many phenomena, and the influence of music on work is not an exception. 79 students participated in one study of enhancing mental activity through music. They were divided into three groups:

  • the first group took a test while listening to the Mozart's music;
  • the second group listened to songs of different styles of music, including classical one;
  • the third group wrote the test in silence.

After checking the tests, it turned out that the first group showed the best result. The group that took the test in silence also had a good result. The group that listened to a selection of different songs passed the test worse than the others.

In addition, the Mozart effect was observed during studies with animals, microbes and plants: when melodic compositions were played as the background, cows gave more milk, plants turned to dynamics, and microbes were more active.

The fact that the Mozart’s compositions are music to improve brain function has been shown in experiments with rats. Rats that listened to instrumental compositions after birth found a way out of the maze faster than their siblings, who grew up in silence or with other sounds.

WHAT MUSIC HAS THE GREATEST IMPACT ON IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY?

On request "pleasant music for work", the search system will offer you a dozen ready-made playlists of music for working on a computer. But first you need to figure out which songs will help improve your daily productivity.

BASIC CRITERIA FOR SELECTING MUSIC TO IMPROVE WORK:

  • music with words makes it difficult to concentrate as well as conversations of employees, so it is better to choose instrumental compositions;
  • moderate volume has a better effect on productivity than low volume. A high noise level, on the contrary, prevents a person from perceiving incoming information and processing it;
  • you need to listen to neutral music, because you will sing along with your favorite songs, and you will listen to songs you don't like in a bad mood - in both cases this will not help to concentrate;
  • neuropsychologists recommend listening to music 10-15 minutes before starting work. It’s even possible to tune your music to the specific most productive hours of the brain. In this case, when listening, the brain will release a dose of dopamine and a person will get a feeling of satisfaction.  Your mood will rise and you will want to work productively in silence, without being distracted from work;
  • an alternative to songs is the sounds of nature and white noise. They mask ambient sounds and enhance cognitive abilities, a desire to concentrate on work and overall satisfaction with the environment. You can try, for example, to listen to the sound of a mountain stream - it has no random sharp sounds and soothes the nervous system;
  • Baroque music and songs at a speed of 60 bpm (beats per minute) are best suited for temporal stimulation of the brain.

ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT RESEARCH DATA:

  • most surgeons listen to music during operations;
  • programmers perform tasks faster if they listen to music for work;
  • background music for work significantly increases the productivity of employees and favorably affects their mood and well-being;
  • medium volume of music is suitable for creative work and improves memory.

WHY IS IT ALWAYS NECESSARY TO HAVE HEADPHONES ON HAND?

Music for office work is a salvation from noisy colleagues. If you are constantly distracted by off-topic conversations, then headphones will help you focus on your tasks.

During monotonous work, you may even want to sleep. It turns out that this happens to everyone! Therefore, it is recommended to listen to rhythmic music, which will help to cheer up with monotonous activity.

Pleasant music while working in the office will cheer you up and completing a task will not seem so boring, because when we listen to our favorite music, dopamine - a hormone of pleasure - is produced in our brain.

During the solution of complex tasks, rhythmic music improves the brain work. We catch the pace and try to follow it. Thus, the decision comes to us faster.

Representatives of creative professions also draw inspiration from melodies. Sometimes a journalist does not know where to start to write a new article. Silence crushes him and he turns on the music. Songs with words can further knock down the writing of the next sentence, but classical music can even help remember such necessary words.

If you need to get rid of stress, then binaural rhythms are what will help you. You just need to put on the headphones and adjust them so that slightly different frequencies are fed to different ears. After 7 minutes of such listening, the brain synchronizes two streams. As a result, you relax and calm down. Another feature of binaural rhythms is that they help the brain synchronize the work of both hemispheres - your memory and mental abilities are improved and it will become easier for you to solve any problems.

DOES EVERYONE NEED TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE WORKING?

There is no definite answer to this question. Because everybody is different, and no matter how much research are carried out by scientists, if the music prevents you from focusing on the assignment, then you will not be able to listen to pop, rock, or classical compositions. However, it’s definitely worth checking your productivity when listening to different types of music, and our Checkiant time tracker will help you with this.
